In the past, logging into the WooCommerce app was a bit of a hassle. You had to type your store URL on your phone and deal with a split login between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. This process was especially frustrating on mobile devices. That’s why we’ve revamped our login experience to make it quicker and simpler for merchants to access their accounts.
During our company’s Radical Speed Month hackathon, Jiří Malina and I joined forces to address this issue for merchants. We had to find the right solution and implement changes across WooCommerce core, WP Admin, WordPress.com, and the iOS and Android apps simultaneously. It was a challenging task, so we had to ensure we chose the best approach.
After analyzing the data, we discovered that most merchants who installed the app were already logged into their store on their desktop computers. Instead of making them re-enter all their information on their phone, we created a new flow: a QR code on the desktop that securely logs you into the mobile app within seconds.
No setup is required—simply update your WooCommerce plugin and mobile app. The QR code feature is available on WooCommerce version 10.9.1 and app version 25.2 (on both Android and iOS) or if your Woo store is connected to a WordPress.com account via Jetpack.
Once you’ve updated, here’s how you can log in:
- Log in to your store on a desktop computer and visit woo.com/mobilelogin.
- Follow the instructions on your desktop to get the QR code.
- In the WooCommerce mobile app, tap the Scan QR code button.
- Scan the QR code, and you’ll be logged in!
The QR code login feature is now available for all users. If you don’t see the option yet, make sure you’ve updated to WooCommerce 10.9.1 and mobile app version 25.2.
