The latest release of WooCommerce, version 11.0, has just been launched, featuring significant speed improvements on product pages and the Order screen, adjustments in how certain metrics are calculated, checkout recovery testing, and more. Continue reading to discover all the new enhancements.
Performance enhancements were a key focus in the development of version 11.0, with several notable changes that will benefit both you and your customers.
- Large stores will experience faster querying of orders on the Orders screen, eliminating timeouts and empty search counts.
- We are conducting an experiment with product object caching, which is now enabled by default for new stores. This enhancement results in variable products loading approximately 9–12% faster on product pages and bundle products processing 6–12% faster during checkout.
With version 11.0, you now have visibility into the status of your historical data imports and the ability to rerun any imports that did not complete. This feature allows you to ensure that your reports cover your complete order history. Checking and rerunning the import can now be done directly from your dashboard, providing peace of mind before generating reports for important meetings or reviews.
Refunds are now accounted for in the period in which they occur. This adjustment ensures that when analyzing net sales for a specific month, all refunds from that month are included, resulting in more reliable month-to-month comparisons. Make sure to inform your developer about this change, especially if you have custom reporting in place that needs to be updated to reflect this new approach.
Session counts now accurately represent real visitors, as analytics now distinguishes between legitimate visitors and bots or transient connections. While you may notice a slight decrease in session counts after the update, this change leads to more precise conversion rates.
Customers who initially make a guest purchase and later create an account will now have access to their past orders in their order history. By verifying ownership of their email address, they can seamlessly connect their purchase history to their account, reducing support inquiries and incentivizing returning customers to create an account.
Version 11.0 introduces the Checkout Recovery beta program, allowing you to test your recovery messaging and evaluate customer responses before implementing widespread email updates. This feature includes one-click unsubscribe and built-in privacy handling to ensure compliance with customer expectations. Your developer team can customize the qualifying order statuses to align with your store’s needs.
To enable the Checkout Recovery beta, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features.
- The block email editor now supports embedding videos from Vimeo, TikTok, and Dailymotion. Videos are displayed as clickable thumbnails with play buttons, enhancing the visual appeal of your emails.
- If you cater to international customers and encounter issues with the phone field format during checkout, version 11.0 provides tools for your developer to address these discrepancies for different markets.
- Stock reserved for incomplete checkouts will now remain allocated for 60 minutes by default. If your store frequently runs flash sales or limited-time offers where reserved stock is crucial, discuss with your developer whether a different time frame may be more suitable for your store’s needs.
The experimental Product Editor, which some stores tested in beta, has been discontinued in version 11.0. Your product data remains intact, but users who were utilizing the beta editor will revert to the standard product editor experience.
If you have custom extensions, ensure that any components reliant on the beta editor are reviewed and updated by your team.
